In the South, “okra” is synonymous with “fried okra.” Fried okra is an absolute treat, especially when spiced and served with a delicious dipping sauce, but there are many other ways to enjoy okra. Okra can be roasted, added to stews and curries, pickled, […]

Today, I overheard juicy office gossip. Two women were discussing how one had gone completely overboard this past weekend and it caused an argument at home. What had this woman done? She ate the entire watermelon before her husband could even grab a slice. Juicy, right? Get it? Since watermelon is in season, we wanted to delve into the juicy topic of watermelon, specifically: why you should eat it, how you can eat it and some fun facts you may not know.
Like many people who live near oyster reefs, I have a love/love relationship with the slippery bivalves. Some people prefer them raw, some fried, some grilled with herbs and butter, and I like them all. Today is National Oyster Day, so letâs salute the briny fruit of the sea with a recipe based off one we ate in Austin, Texas while in town for the BlogHer Food 2013 conference.
In my house, we look forward to tomato season all year. We rush to farmers markets and produce stands in the summer, eagerly awaiting the sight of red, yellow, orange and pink tomatoes to take center stage in our everyday cooking. Itâs fun to see the colorful heirloom tomatoes on the counter, and sometimes I donât want to use them because they look so beautiful. Some have stripes, some have weird ridges and bumps, but they all have that perfectly tart and sweet, juicy flavor we all love.

Compound butter sounds like something fancy that would take a long time to make, something you might bring out for special occasions or holidays or when you host your best friendâs baby shower.
