I need this banana peach green smoothie like I need air, because running a household of six people, especially when four of them are little kids, is hard work. So hard. There are days when I can’t remember what I did five minutes ago, let alone important things like my name or where I live. How old am I again?
Oh wait, don’t remind me of that.

Most of the time, I feel like I need more hours in a day just to get everything done. Do you ever feel like that? It’s such a crazy, fast-paced world we live in, and it can be a struggle to finish a single task sometimes.

So it’s pretty easy to imagine that I can forget to eat, often, and because of that, I find myself more rundown than I should be since I’m not getting the proper vitamins and minerals from the meals I keep skipping.

When it comes to striking back and getting in the groove of happy eats I turn to my Hamilton Beach Personal Blender. Seriously, this thing is amazing. Banana Peach Green Smoothie
SERVES: 1

Ingredients
¾ cup plain Greek yogurt
¾ cup fresh spinach
⅓ cup green grapes
½ avocado
¾ cup peaches
½ banana
1 Tablespoon maple syrup
½ teaspoon vanilla
Instructions
Combine all the ingredients in a Hamilton Beach Personal Blender and pulse until smooth. Enjoy!

Now that September is finally here and the cooler temperatures are right around the corner, I think many of us notice that our immune systems begin to take a turn for the worse. People are cooped up indoors and germs are spreading like crazy. Many of us start to increase our intake of vitamin C during this time through supplements or fruits but I really like to boost my immunity with one of my favorite smoothies.

One of my favorite sources of vitamin C is kale. This vegetable is seriously the new “superfood” and it’s packed with nutrients that do wonderful things for your body. While it might turn your smoothie a leafy green color, it’s practically flavorless so you won’t even know it’s there! Not only is this vegetable high in vitamin C, but it also gives you large doses of Vitamin A, K and fiber. Fiber can also help you maintain a healthy weight by making you feel full longer.

In addition to the vitamin-packed kale, the combination of citrus fruits, chia seeds and Greek yogurt add an extra punch of vitamin C and protein. I also like to include vanilla almond milk as an additional source of protein. All of these components are a great way to wake your body up and keep you feeling full until lunchtime. And it never hurts to boost your immune system as we move into the cooler months.

Citrus Kale Immune Booster Smoothie
SERVES: 1

Ingredients
1 cup vanilla almond milk
½ cup plain Greek yogurt
1 grapefruit, peeled and quartered
1 orange, peeled and quartered
1 tablespoon chia seeds
1 handful fresh kale
2-3 ice cubes
Instructions
Combine all ingredients in the jar of the Single-Serve Blender and pulse until the ingredients are combined.
Place the travel lid back onto the cup and serve or pour into a large glass and enjoy.

Smoothies are great, especially in the spring and summer. That’s when I really start to craaaave fruits and vegetables and push pasta to the side. (Not every time, though. I still love pasta.) My favorite time to have a smoothie is breakfast, because it feels like I’m kick-starting my day with a boost of refreshing, healthy fruit. Breakfast smoothies are even better with a dollop – or a huge scoop – of yogurt, especially one with a hint of vanilla or honey. Greek yogurt is my favorite because it’s high in protein and makes my breakfast seem a little more substantial. The yogurt also gives smoothies creaminess and tang. If berries aren’t quite in season yet, buy them frozen. This way, you’ll always have some on hand for breakfast, even a healthy snack for the kids.

Pomegranate Berry Smoothie
SERVES: 4

Ingredients
1 ½ cup pomegranate juice
1 ½ cup frozen blueberries
1 ½ cup frozen strawberries
1 ½ cup lowfat or nonfat vanilla yogurt
Instructions
Pour pomegranate juice into blender, then add remaining ingredients.
Blend on a high speed setting or smoothie setting until blended and smooth.
Pour into glasses and serve.
Notes
Substitute another kind of juice if you do not have pomegranate juice on hand, for instance grape or even apple. Try different flavors of yogurt to add a different twist.

Banana Nut Smoothies
SERVES: 4

Ingredients
1 cup almond milk
1/4 cup old fashioned oatmeal
3 bananas, peeled, broken into chunks
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
2 cups ice cubes (20 crescent shape)
Instructions
Place ingredients in blender jar in order listed.
Cover and blend on AUTO SMOOTHIE setting or PULSE a few times, then blend on HIGH for 30 to 45 seconds.
